My family and I just returned from a much needed beach vacation. It was a time for relaxing and rejuvenation. We went for walks on the beach, built sand castles, played in the pool, and had a friendly/competitive miniature golf game. Mixed in with all of that was a trip to the aquarium, and I even got to do some recreational reading.
What made this trip even better? Doing it all with friends.
I realized during this trip just how important it is to occasionally disengage from the everyday stresses of life. I find myself trying to “get it all done” when I’m home, and it is easy to get overwhelmed. We need to take time to slow down, play, and do whatever it is that helps us to relax. If we don’t, we may find ourselves burnt out, irritable and possibly physically sick.
Even if you can’t go anywhere, at least take a day off or even an hour, and let your mind and body unwind. If you do this on a regular basis, you may find yourself a more productive and happier person.
